Sen. Kahn announces property tax forums

-

LANSING, MI – February 10, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Sen. Roger Kahn, R-Saginaw Township, announced Monday that he will host two forums open to the public on how to appeal property tax bills.

“Many residents have received their assessment sheets in the mail, or will receive them soon,” Kahn said. “Unfortunately, your bill will likely show an increase in taxes but a decrease in value. In some cases, you can appeal to lower your tax bill, but you only have a narrow window of time to do so.”

The free forums will feature attorney Mike Bosnic, who handles property tax appeals in his practice. Bosnic will discuss appeal methods and common mistakes to avoid, and answer questions from area taxpayers.

The forums are scheduled as follows:

Saginaw County:

Thursday, Feb. 19

7 p.m.

Thomas Township Public Safety Building

8215 Shields Drive

Thomas Township

Gratiot County:

Saturday, Feb. 28

1 p.m.

Gratiot Senior Center

1329 Michigan Ave

St. Louis

For those who cannot attend the forums, written information is available through Kahn’s office by calling toll free 1-866-305-2132 or writing ">.

“I encourage the public to attend and be informed of your rights as a property owner,” Kahn stated.
