Governor makes appointments to Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons

LANSING, MI – July 18, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder has announced the appointment of Robert Craig, of St. Johns, and the reappointment of Shawn Huston, of Lewiston, to the Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons.

The nine-member board, housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, oversees and regulates the licensure and practice of real estate brokers and salespersons in Michigan. The board currently oversees 42,419 real estate salespersons, 9,942 associate real estate brokers, 11,348 real estate brokers and 716 branch offices.

“Robert and Shawn bring years of diverse experiences to this board,” said Snyder. “I am confident they will effectively oversee Michigan’s real estate industry.”

Appointed:

Craig is president of Craig & Associates Consulting Inc., a multi-client firm which provides professional agricultural economic analysis, new market and product research and promotion, marketing and management services for Michigan-based agriculture and natural resources organizations. Previously, he served as director of the agriculture development division and director of agriculture policy and special projects for the Michigan Department of Agriculture. Craig serves as chairman of the Clinton County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural economics from Michigan State University and Cornell University in New York, respectively. Craig will represent the general public and replaces Kevin Plagens.

Reappointed:

Huston is owner of Huston Real Estate Inc. in Lewiston, a business owned by his family since 1948. He became a licensed salesperson in 1993 and a licensed broker in 1998. Huston serves as director of the Water Wonderland Board of Realtors, a professional trade association serving the counties of Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Mackinac, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in small business management from Ferris State University. Huston will continue to represent real estate brokers and salespersons.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that expire June 30, 2016, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
