Macomb County awarded $1 million brownfield loan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The DEQ today announced the award of a $1 million brownfield redevelopment loan to Macomb County for the city of Utica’s Ballpark and Community Activities Complex.

The state-of-the-art, 4,000-seat ballpark, located on the Clinton River, will used for Little League, high school, college and minor league baseball, as well as for community activities like ice skating, concerts, and family and senior events. The city anticipates the new facility will create more than 100 new full-time and part-time jobs.

The DEQ loan will be used in conjunction with another $800,000 in DEQ Surface Water Quality Initiative funds to conduct soil and groundwater remediation and monitoring on the east and west sides of the Clinton River, facilitating the redevelopment of the brownfield property.

“The DEQ is excited to participate in this project that will revitalize the city of Utica, help protect the Clinton River and ensure the safe reuse of the property,” DEQ Director Dan Wyant said.

The Brownfield Redevelopment Program provides funding to local governments for environmental response activities on brownfield properties where redevelopment is proposed. Brownfield properties are vacant or abandoned properties with known or suspected environmental contamination.
