House Demands Accountability After Flint Water Crisis

-

Washington, D.C. – February 12, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 4470, the Safe Drinking Water Act Improved Compliance Awareness Act:

“Our nation can’t ignore the problems in Flint, Michigan. It’s clear that Flint water customers were left in the dark about the corrosion of their pipes and the unsafe levels of lead in their water supply. Officials at all levels of government were not communicating with each other as the problems emerged, and the House will continue to investigate the matter. Ultimately, utilities and government should be transparent and accountable when the water people depend on is no longer safe to use. This bill demands that Americans are rapidly notified the moment a problem arises in their water supply. Government incompetence cannot be accepted at the expense of public health.”
