Gov. Rick Snyder appoints Gen. Michael McDaniel to Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee

LANSING, Mich. – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Gen. Michael McDaniel, of East Lansing, to the Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee.

The 17-member committee, housed within Michigan State Police, makes recommendations to the Governor regarding the health and welfare of people exposed to lead, studies Flint’s water infrastructure and determines potential upgrades, reviews Flint Water Task Force recommendations, and recommends ways to improve communication between local and state government.

“I am confident that the expertise Brig. Gen. McDaniel brings to this committee will be a tremendous asset as we continue to address the water crisis in Flint,” Snyder said.

McDaniel is a tenured professor and the Director of Homeland and National Security Law programs at the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is the founder of the Veterans Legal Assistance Project, which provides free services by Cooley Law students to Michigan veterans. McDaniel has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for more than 27 years and has served on many local, state, and national councils. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University, a law degree from Case Western Reserve University, a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Army War College, and a master’s degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School. McDaniel is a representative of the City of Flint who shall be submitted by the Mayor of the City of Flint.

Members serve three-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
