Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Flint Water Crisis Hearings

-

WASHINGTON, DC – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a second congressional hearing on the Flint water crisis:

“I appreciate the committee’s attention today on the Flint water crisis and the outrage expressed by Members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans. It is my hope that this anger turns into action for Flint. Accountability is important, and those who created the water crisis should be held accountable. But there are many forms of justice, and one of them is making this right for the people of Flint.

“Resources are needed right now for Flint families who are the victims of this terrible crisis. So far, the state’s response has fallen woefully short of what is needed to recover. This is unfortunate seeing as how it was decisions made by state officials and state-appointed emergency financial managers that led to this crisis. Even today, Flint families cannot turn on their tap and drink the water.

“Flint should not be forced to wait until the state steps up. Flint residents are also citizens of the United States, and Congress has it in its power to immediately act. I have introduced legislation that makes critical investments to replace lead pipes, provides the necessary educational, nutritional and developmental support for families exposed to lead, and helps Flint rebuild itself from the reputational damage done by this crisis. Congress can – and should – act right away on this legislation.

“Flint is a strong community. We just need the resources to overcome this crisis.”
