Envision 8th Street Public Kick-Off meeting April 20

The City of Traverse City is beginning the Charrette process with a public kick-off meeting on

Wednesday April 20th at 7:00pm at NMC Hagerty Center, 715 Front Street.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — The Charrette process, identified as “Envision 8th”, is an opportunity for residents and the City to establish a vision, and ultimately, design solutions for Eighth Street, as well as surrounding land uses. The design for Eighth Street will be approached through several methods including transportation planning and engineering, streetscape design and developing regulations for building types and land uses along the street.

City Planning Director, Russ Soyring, has stated “Eighth Street has a self-professed identity crisis.” “This is an opportunity for residents to have hands on participation and form the solution for our community”. The public is encouraged to participate and attend Wednesday’s kick-off. The City intends to rebuild the street in its entirety when the water main that runs under the street is replaced in 2018.

The 2013 Corridors Master Plan will be a starting point for the charrette process. The 2013 Plan identified various land use, right-of-way, traffic and aesthetic issues along the corridor. The Plan also identified potential redevelopment sites.

After the kick-off, consultants will take the information gathered on the 20th and return with a concept review. This concept review will be the basis for the Charrette Week May 16 through May 20.
