Michigan Civil Rights Commission to Hold Public Meeting to Release Report on Flint Water Crisis

Lansing – (RealEstateRama) — At 2 pm on Friday, February 17, 2017, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission (the Commission) will meet to review, adopt, and release a report of their findings on the civil rights implications of the Flint water crisis and recommendations for action. The Commission will meet in the Grand Ballroom of the Northbank Center, 432 N. Saginaw Street in Flint, Michigan.

Immediately following the Commission meeting, which is expected to conclude by 5:00 p.m., Commissioners and Department of Civil Rights Director Agustin Arbulu will hold a media availability in the same location.

At 6 pm on February 17, the Department of Civil Rights will host a presentation on the Commission’s findings for Flint residents who were unable to attend the 2 pm Commission meeting. The presentation will also be held in the Northbank Center Grand Ballroom at 432 N. Saginaw Street in Flint. The presentation is expected to conclude by 8:00 p.m.

In January 2016, the Commission unanimously passed a resolution to conduct a series of public hearings into alleged discrimination involving residents of the city of Flint and their public water supply. Over the course of the year, Commissioners held three public hearings and conducted site visits with residents, local leaders and city officials. They heard and read hours of testimony from experts on a range of topics related to the crisis, as well as elected officials, state and local agencies and organizations, medical personnel and hundreds of Flint residents.
