MARQUETTE, Mich. – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder today met with Commissioners from the Building the 21st Century Economy Commission, legislators, and local business leaders to discuss the importance of establishing a strategy for economic growth that will help new and existing industries thrive in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

“The U.P. is an important factor in the success and vitality of Michigan’s growing economy,” Snyder said. “I look forward to continue working together with leaders in the U.P. region to help ensure Michigan’s economic goals are met.”

The Building the 21st Century Economy Commissioners have been traveling around the state to have discussions with local leaders regarding their vision for Michigan’s future economy, as well as the region-specific opportunities and challenges they are facing. The Commission is the final advisory body to be established under Snyder’s plan to set the foundation for Michigan’s future, which includes a focus on improving education and infrastructure in addition to the state’s economy.

The commission has been charged with setting goals and establishing metrics to measure Michigan’s economic success, identify the potential for new industry growth, develop strategies to support existing industry, and make recommendations that will distinguish the state as a center for innovation.
