Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Manufactured Housing Commission

LANSING, Mich. –- (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Kevin Barker of Belmont as well as the reappointments of Phillip Copeland of Holly, Steven Karbal of Bloomfield Hills, and William Lettinga of Byron Center to the Manufactured Housing Commission.

The commission establishes uniform policies related to all phases of manufactured housing, business manufactured housing parks, and seasonal manufactured housing parks.

“These individuals have extensive backgrounds in the manufactured housing industry and I thank them for their commitment to this commission,” Snyder said.

Appointment:

Barker is a region manager for Triad Financial Services, Inc. He previously held positions with Chase Manhattan Mortgage and Ford Consumer Finance, and has 22 years of manufactured housing lending experience. Barker holds an associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Jr. College and a bachelor’s degree in business from Davenport College. He will represent financial institutions and replace Creighton Weber.

Reappointments:

Copeland is vice president of engineering for Champion Home Builders. He is a licensed professional engineer in ten states and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil construction engineering from Michigan Technological University. He will continue to represent manufacturers of mobile homes.

Karbal is a member of MHG Group, LLC, and was previously a partner at Medallion Homes. He has been involved in the development and operation of manufactured home communities for nearly 30 years. He is a licensed real estate salesperson, mortgage loan originator, and residential builder. Karbal holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Arizona and a master of professional accounting in federal taxation from the University of Texas. He will continue to represent licensed mobile home dealers.

Lettinga is a partner and president of Kentland Corporation. He serves on the Hope Network board of trustees, is vice chairman of the Davenport University Foundation Board, and previously served as president of the Michigan Manufactured Housing Association. Lettinga holds an associate’s degree in business management from Davenport College. He will continue to represent operators of a licensed manufactured housing park.

Barker will serve a three-year term expiring May 9, 2020. All other members will serve a three-year term expiring May 9, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
