Congresswoman Lawrence Announces $5 Million Southfield MSF Project

Project will lead to 485-permanent, full-time jobs and generate $40 million total capital investment.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 10, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) on Tuesday released the following statement in regard to the Michigan Strategic Fund’s approval of nearly $5 million in local and school tax capture for the City of Southfield Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to redevelop 14 acres of property on Northwestern Highway for Dürr Systems, Inc.

“MSF could not have picked a better or more deserving business to benefit from this project, which will help Dürr Systems, Inc. consolidate its existing locations into a new, state-of-the-art headquarters and Metro Detroit campus in the City of Southfield,” Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence said Tuesday. “This project will benefit not only Dürr Systems, Inc., but the 485 permanent full-time employees that will be hired as a result of this project and their families. When our hard-working citizens are able to secure good-paying jobs that provide a living wage and opportunity for career growth, they are able to support our local economy and the economic engine for the entire state of Michigan.”

The Brownfield Project will generate a total capital investment of approximately $40 million and will serve as a catalyst for future building improvements within the 14th District, according to MSF. Additionally, Southfield has also approved a ten year Commercial Rehabilitation Act district that has an estimated savings of $700,000 for the project. The Commercial Rehabilitation Act district includes several adjacent buildings to locally incentivize for future investment within that district, MSF said.

Dürr Systems, Inc. is a global manufacturing and engineering firm that enables highly efficient manufacturing processes in a number of industries, including auto manufacturers and the mechanical engineering, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
