Conyers Applauds $5 Million Homeless Veterans Grant from Department of Labor

-

DETROIT – April 8, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Labor announced $5 million to fund programs that will assist approximately 2,600 veterans in job training with civilian careers. The grants will range from $100,000 to $300,000. The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program is the only federal program that works exclusively on the employment of homeless veterans. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued the following statement:

“I am pleased that the Department of Labor will be funding grants that will service veterans across the country.

“There are so many citizens seeking a full time job, but this number is seen at a staggeringly high rate amongst veterans who sometimes have a hard time reintegrating into the community after their service to our county.

“The funding that organizations across the country will receive will allow them to assist homeless veterans with occupational, classroom and on the job training, job placement and follow up services.

“I applaud Acting Secretary of Labor Seth Harris for providing this funding that ultimately allows for the successful housing ownership of homeless veterans.

“This should be the first of a series of homeless veteran grants from the department.”
