Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) voted in support of the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA) which provided federal infrastructure assistance to Flint, and included Congressman Huizenga’s amendment to permanently prioritize Army Corps funding for the Great Lakes Navigation System (GLNS). The system is a critical international waterway that extends from the western end of Lake Superior to the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the Atlantic Ocean, a distance of over 2,400 miles. The U.S. portion of the system includes 140 harbors and over 600 miles of maintained navigation channels. The Great Lakes Navigation System can handle 200 million tons of cargo, generating $18 billion in economic activity and supporting 130,000 jobs

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, today joined his House colleagues in voting to advance the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA) by a bipartisan 399 to 25 vote. The legislation authorizes $170 million to provide assistance for the city of Flint, Michigan, through an amendment offered by U.S. Reps Dan Kildee, D-Flint, and John Moolenaar, R-Midland, and championed by Upton. Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for the Water Resources Development Act, bipartisan legislation to address the needs of our ports, harbors, and other waterway infrastructure critical to Michigan jobs and our state’s economic competitiveness. The bipartisan bill, which passed the House by a 399-25 vote, also included provisions to reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, dedicate resources to the Great Lakes Navigation System, and provide support for the people of Flint

This action resulted from a recent investigation of a complaint of the adult foster care large group home.

Michigan has seen a significant reduction in veteran and overall homelessness, according to a report released today during the 2016 Summit on Ending Homelessness. The Ending Homelessness in Michigan 2015 Annual Report shows Michigan has experienced a 6 percent dip in homelessness and 15 percent decrease in veteran homelessness, based on the annual homeless count

Deborah A. Wiley has been awarded a National Title Professional (NTP) designation from the American Land Title Association (ALTA), the national trade association of the land title insurance industry. Wiley is the third NTP designee from Michigan and joins 66 other industry leaders from around the United States who have earned the professional designation.

Consumers Energy is adding jobs in Michigan, hiring qualified workers to increase its workforce that responds to emergencies, enhances system reliability and restores electric service following storms.

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) on Sept. 8 authorized Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCo) to increase its electric rates by $4,647,975 annually, a figure 30.4 percent below what the utility requested. Also, because the final amount approved was lower than the $6,259,025 the utility self-implemented in March, some customers will see a rate decrease, effective Sept. 23. By state law, customers who paid more than the currently approved amount will also get a refund of the difference between what the utility self-implemented and the MPSC granted, plus interest, in the future

Consumers Energy today celebrated its second solar power plant -- an 8.5-acre array of solar panels at Western Michigan University that produces electricity for Michigan homes and businesses. “We are committed to a sustainable future for Michigan, which is why we built this power plant as part of our Solar Gardens program,” said Patti Poppe, Consumers Energy’s president and CEO. “We’re a different kind of company – leaving our environment better than we found it every day.
