MAR Top Industry Priorities of 2013

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 12, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Tax Records – Preserving the affordability and quality of public tax data. REALTORS® know better than anyone that this information is vital for the daily operation of those working within the real estate industry and the public at large. The MAR aims to work with the Michigan Legislature to keep the cost of this public information reasonable and will help Governor Snyder and all interested parties make online information accurate and beneficial to everyone.

Statewide Septic Code – Preventing costly point of sale mandates. The MAR has been working with the legislature and a workgroup for more than ten years to develop a statewide septic code that builds on the current operation of the free market and provides efficient disclosure of the property condition. Additionally, the DEQ needs an approval process for more environmentally sound alternative systems.

Licensee Educational Standards – Improving real estate education and licensing in Michigan. The MAR continues to discuss long term reforms to industry educational practices with the Governor’s office as well as legislative leaders in the House and Senate. We hope to partner with LARA and the Legislature to produce efficiency in licensing and greater consistency to maintain consumer protection and industry health.

Foreclosures – Contributing to public policy solutions that would realize a stronger real estate market. Work continues on concepts aimed at fostering a vibrant housing market without imposing additional burdens on the foreclosure process or involved parties. The MAR will weigh in as ideas come forward, particularly on concepts that seek alterations to the redemption period.

Land Use – Stopping mandates on real property that would potentially hold back economic recovery. The MAR will partner with government and stakeholders to explore sound land use policy that does not burden the free market and supports our most sacred private property rights.
