Recognizing the Need for Safe, Loving, and Permanent Homes for All Children

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 25, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — There are approximately 14,000 children in Michigan’s foster care system in need of a home.  This November, in honor of National Adoption Day, November 23, and Month, it is important to raise awareness about the thousands of children in foster care awaiting families and also to celebrate the dedicated individuals who have adopted and who work to make adoptions a reality.  Recently, Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI) introduced, voted for and co-sponsored separate pieces of legislation to help children in need of safe, loving, and permanent homes.

This week, Camp co-sponsored H.Res. 409 in support of the goals of National Adoption Day, and National Adoption month to raise awareness of the over 400,000 children nationwide in foster care in need of a home.  Read the whole resolution here.

Additionally, last month, the House of Representatives passed with bipartisan support H.R. 3205, the Promoting Adoption and Legal Guardianship for Children in Foster Care Act, to encourage states to increase adoptions from foster care.  The Senate has yet to act.

After introducing the bill, along with his Ways and Means Committee colleagues, Camp said, “Children in foster care deserve a place to call home, not just for a few months or years but for good.  Having focused on adoption since arriving in Congress—and having helped create the Adoption Incentives Program—I know by providing states with incentives for adoptions we can encourage them to do more to help these children.  We have already seen great progress in increasing adoptions since this program was created in 1997, and it is our hope to continue this progress with this bill.”
