Rep. Miller says President’s Clean Power Plan Threatens to Roll Back Manufacturing Resurgence

-

WASHINGTON, D.C.- August 4, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Rep. Candice Miller (MI-10) issued the following statement after the Administration formally announced the roll out of its Clean Power Plan, new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2030:

“Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court nullified EPA’s 2012 mercury regulations on coal and oil-fired power plants, citing that the agency failed to take the burdensome cost of compliance into consideration.  This ruling, unfortunately, was too late for nine power plants in Michigan – including two in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District – all of which were forced to shut down.  Today, despite the Court’s ruling requiring the agency to consider the economic impact of its regulations, this Administration rolled out its most aggressive regulations yet against American power plants – a move certain to shut down more plants and undermine the all-of-the-above approach needed to ensure America’s energy security.

“Unable to achieve his political legacy through the legislative process, President Obama continues to govern through regulators and executive orders, suffocating American businesses. This new set of unrealistic regulations being forced on American energy producers, specifically the coal power plants heavily relied upon in Michigan, will undoubtedly take a toll on our region, including our recovering manufacturing industry. I’ve always said that more needs to be done to protect our environment and natural resources, but we must not hastily force regulations on energy producers and consumers that threaten our ability to maintain a reliable source of affordable energy.”
