Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $7.2 Million in Community Development Grants for Michigan

WASHINGTON, DC – July 16, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Nineteen Michigan communities will receive a total of $7,296,509 in community development grants for projects designed to benefit low- and middle-income families, Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced today. The funds, made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will be disbursed by the local governments of Battle Creek, Bay City, Clinton Township, Flint, Genesee County, Holland, Kalamazoo, Kent County, Lincoln Park, Midland, Pontiac, Port Huron, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Taylor, Warren, Wayne County, Westland and Wyoming.

“I am pleased that this recovery funding will help provide quality, affordable housing to families across Michigan,” Stabenow said.  “These grants will not only help stabilize our communities, but they will also help revitalize our economy by creating good-paying jobs.”

“I welcome these funds for Michigan, and expect they will have a great impact on low- and middle income communities,” Levin said. “These grants will help provide affordable housing and economic opportunities, as well as create jobs today.” <

The funds are part of the Community Development Block Grant Program, which since 1974 has provided more than $127 billion to state and local governments to provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities for lower income people.
