Detroit to receive $4.2 million for housing, homelessness programs
WASHINGTON, DC – July 31, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Detroit will receive $4.2 million in federal funding to promote affordable housing, fight homelessness and boost the local economy, Sen. Carl Levin announced Monday.
“These grants will help build a stronger, more vibrant, more economically competitive community for the benefit of Southeast Michigan and the entire state,” Levin said.
The grants announced Monday come from three U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs: Community Development Block Grants, which help state and local governments improve housing options and expand economic opportunity; Emergency Shelter Grants, which help state and local governments and private groups improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters; and the HOME Program, which helps expand the supply of affordable housing for low-income families.
The grants announced Monday:
–Macomb County will receive $1.6 million in CDBG funding and $1.1 million in HOME Program funding.
–Clinton Township will receive a $487,017 CDBG grant.
–Farmington Hills will receive a $344,516 CDBG grant.
–Waterford Township will receive a $361,803 CDBG grant.
–Livonia will receive a $282,958 CDBG grant.
