Housing Summit Coming to Midland on Friday & Other Michigan Cities

LANSING, Mich., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB) announced today it is holding a series of Housing Industry Summits around the state, and will be at the Midland Holiday Inn (1500 W. Wackerly Road, Midland) from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on January 25, 2008. Several state legislators from the Midland and Tri-City area will be in attendance.

“Residential construction is a crucial piece of Michigan’s economy and right now it needs a shot in the arm. When building and remodeling occurs, home values stabilize and the State benefits financially. The flip side is when Michigan’s economy slows and consumer confidence deteriorates. Home values drop, owners lose equity and overall economic spending plummets. Our legislature needs to take action to help stimulate the state’s housing marketplace and economy or home owners will continue to find it difficult to sell or buy homes,” said MAHB President Greg Powell of Powell Construction Services, LLC in St. Joe.

Ten Housing Industry Summits will be held around the state where legislators, bankers, realtors, and members of the Michigan Association of Home Builders will have a chance to hear from each other on how to turn the economy around. “Housing is not, and should not, be a partisan issue. Republicans and Democrats are being foreclosed upon and forced out of their American Dream,” said Dawn Crandall, Political Affairs Director for the MAHB. Greg Powell followed that statement up by saying, “It’s time we all work together to bring Michigan back to the strong economy it can be.”

“It is our goal to combine every idea, comment and concern from all areas of our great state and issue a report to the Michigan Legislature. This is an opportunity for our members to get involved in the legislative process and make their voice heard,” said Bob Filka, CEO of the MAHB.

The MAHB is a professional trade association representing nearly 10,000 members. The MAHB’s membership includes homebuilders and other professionals in the building industry. Affiliated with 33 local home builder associations across the state, the MAHB works to positively promote the building industry and impact legislative, regulatory and legal issues affecting housing affordability.
