Law grants millions to local colleges for projects

LANSING – October 03, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — Legislation granting three local colleges and universities nearly $25 million for infrastructure projects has been signed into law by the governor, said Sen. Michelle McManus.

“Our colleges and universities provide essential job-training programs that prepare students for the workforce. The money made available in this budget will go a long way to improving those schools and their programs,” said McManus, R-Lake Leelanau, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Capital Outlay subcommittee. “I thank the governor for signing this bill so quickly.”

Ferris State University will receive $20.17 million from the state to create the Center for Collaborative Health Care Education for the Michigan College of Optometry. West Shore Community College was awarded $3.45 million to renovate its arts and sciences center, and Kirtland Community College received $502,500 to remodel its arts and sciences center.

Senate Bill 511, now Public Act 278 of 2008 takes immediate effect.
