MPSC and Michigan Energy Office Issue Draft Report on Renewable Energy, Public Comment Sought
WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 23, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) Chairman John D. Quackenbush and Michigan Energy Office Director Steve Bakkal today issued a draft reporton renewable energy and are seeking public comment on the report.
“We are pleased today to release the first of four draft reports that are part of Governor Snyder’s initiative announced last year to make Michigan ready to make good energy decisions in the future,” Quackenbush and Bakkal said. “We heard from hundreds of people at public forums held around the state and from many more who took the time to convey information on renewable energy via the Michigan.gov/energy website. We are grateful for the reports, studies and factual information that people provided to us for the purpose of this report. We look forward to public comments on the draft report that we will consider as we write the final report.”
Public comments on the draft report may be made until 5 p.m. on October 16 via the Michigan.gov/energy website. The target date for release of the final renewable energy report is Nov. 4 (subject to change).
In his Special Message on Energy and the Environment in November last year, Governor Snyder laid out a vision for a “no regrets” energy policy, one that would be adaptable and built on three pillars: excellent reliability, an affordable price, and a protected environment. The Governor charged Chairman Quackenbush and Director Bakkal with the information gathering process and directed them to issue draft reports for public comment and then final reports.
The other three reports will be on energy efficiency, electric choice and one on “additional areas” related to energy policy. The target dates for the other draft and final reports (subject to change) are listed in the chart here.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
