Rep. Bentivolio’s Statement on VA’s New Initiative to End Veteran’s Homelessness
WASHINGTON, DC – July 12, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, the Deparment of Veterans Affairs announced a new grant initiative to help end veteran’s homelessness. Congressman Kerry Bentivolio released the following statement on the initiative:
“We owe a big thanks to our veterans for bravely defending our nation, and keeping America the home of the free and land of the brave. Unfortunately, when some of them return home, they aren’t provided with the tools needed to re-adjust to civilian life. This has resulted in over 60,000 homeless veterans on a single night, according to aDepartment of Housing and Urban Development study. It’s imperative that we find ways to end homelessness for the men and women who put their lives on the line for our great nation.
“The new Veterans Affairs initiative targets 120,000 homeless and at-risk veterans and their families through a grant program to community agencies throughout the country. This grant program is a huge step in the right direction to ensure that no veterans find themselves without shelter. We must always continue to find ways to combat this epidemic. As a veteran, I will continue to work with the VA to support our veterans and servicemen and women as they return home.”
