Senators Levin, Stabenow Announce More Than $14.3 Million for Native American Housing

Funds Made Available Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

WASHINGTON, DC – August 12, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., announced the availability of $14,391,790 for eight Native American communities across Michigan. The funding, provided through the Indian Community Development Block Grant and Native American Housing Block Grant programs is made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grants are designed to assist Native American tribes improve and expand their housing supply, promote energy efficiency and create jobs.

“These funds will go to some of the hardest hit communities across Michigan, and will play a role in revitalizing local economies across the state,” Levin said. “These grants will give Native American communities the support they need to revitalize their communities and help ensure affordable housing for all their residents.”

“Investing in quality, affordable housing and community improvements are important steps towards Michigan’s economic recovery,” said Stabenow. “These federal funds will help provide Native American communities with the means to make extensive infrastructure improvements and become more energy efficient, while creating much-needed jobs.”
