Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce Job Training Support for Homeless Women Veterans, Veterans with Families in Southeast Michigan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 6, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today announced federal job training support for homeless women veterans and veterans with families in Southeast Michigan. Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries is one of 22 recipients across the country that was awarded the competitive grant. Services provided will include job-placement, on-the-job and classroom training, career counseling, life skills and money management mentoring, and help finding housing.

Sen. Stabenow said: “When our veterans return home after serving our country we need to make sure they have the opportunity to find a good-paying job. Training for new high-demand jobs will help prepare our veterans with the right skills to match the needs of cutting-edge businesses looking to grow.”

Sen. Levin said: “We have no more important obligation than supporting the men and women who have risked all to protect us,” Levin said. “And we can give them no greater support than to help them get the training they need to join the workforce.”

Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries will receive $101,100 from the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans with Families Program. Support is awarded on a competitive basis to state and local nonprofit organizations that are familiar with the areas and populations to be served.
