Congresswoman Lawrence Announces $8 million Oakland County Brownfield Project
Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (MI-14) and Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman cite project as sign of economic resurgence
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) on Tuesday released the following statement regarding the Michigan Strategic Fund’s (MSF) approval of nearly $8 million in local and school tax capture for the Oakland County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to develop 80 acres in downtown Pontiac as part of the pending M1 Concourse project.
“Michigan’s 14th District continues to make great strides toward one of the strongest economic comebacks this nation has seen thanks to projects like the Oakland County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and M1 Concourse,” Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence said Wednesday. “This project, which will focus on the redevelopment of the vacant GM Pontiac Validation Center property in Pontiac, marks the second multimillion dollar Brownfield Project to be awarded in the 14th Congressional District this month. I am extremely proud of my District’s ability to generate this kind of support and investment, which is crucial for creating the kind of jobs that American workers need to support their families and communities and for building a stronger economy.
According to M1 Concourse CEO Brad Oleshansky, the Oakland County Brownfield project is expected to create 95 jobs, the vast majority of which are expected to be full-time positions, and generate a total capital investment of $45 million. The injection of capital and jobs, which are expected to develop over the next three to four years, are expected to benefit residents and businesses throughout Pontiac, said Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman.
“M1 Concourse is an innovative project that is an example of the kinds of developments that are fueling the economic resurgence in Pontiac. It is exciting to all of us involved that the first phase sales were highly successful and have exited the interest of the public,” Mayor Deirdre Waterman said.
The $7.9 million MSF project will be used to alleviate brownfield conditions at the site and for demolition, site preparation, and infrastructure improvements in preparation for M1 Concourse’s pending redevelopment project, which includes a car condominium and demonstration track for car owners in the Metro Detroit area as well as restaurants, an events center, and retail stores. An official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled at the site today, June 24, 2015, from 10 a.m. to noon. You can read more about the M1 Concourse redevelopment project here.
