Work on replacing high-risk lead service lines in Flint is under way as state and city leaders collaboratively focus on removing pipes in priority areas while analyzing the city’s water pipe network to maximize efficiency, Gov. Rick Snyder said

Gov. Rick Snyder made the following statement today with regards to the state House’s approval of $30 million to provide relief for a portion of Flint residents’ water and sewer bills going back to April 2014:

Gov. Rick Snyder’s office today posted emails and corresponding documents that have been made available to requesting entities from state departments regarding the Flint water crisis. The documentation represents requests fulfilled to date by the Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Treasury, Department of Technology, Management and Budget, and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding Flint water.

In February of 2015, officials at the EPA were contacted by Flint residents about water quality problems. For months afterward, the EPA did not inform the public about the risks of drinking Flint water.

Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, applauded the swift passage of H.R. 4470, the Safe Drinking Water Act Improved Compliance Awareness Act, by the U.S. House of Representatives today in a 416-2 vote. The bipartisan legislation was co-sponsored by all 14 members of the Michigan Congressional Delegation and is similar to legislation in the U.S. Senate sponsored by Senators Stabenow and Peters.

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after Michigan Governor Rick Snyder agreed to testify before Congress on the Flint water crisis after previously declining multiple requests to do so

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced that northern Michigan will receive nearly $8 million in public investment that will be matched by nearly $8 million in private sector investment to support land and water conservation. Support for this project – as well as five ongoing conservation projects in Michigan – comes through the 2014 Farm Bill’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program which was authored by Stabenow.

The Michigan Public Service Commission’s sixth annual report on the implementation of the state’s renewable energy standard shows that 9.1 percent of Michigan’s electricity was generated from renewable sources in 2014. For 2015, the estimated renewable energy percentage is expected to exceed the 10 percent requirement

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a settlement agreement authorizing Wisconsin Electric Power Company to implement its amended renewable energy plan.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 4470, the Safe Drinking Water Act Improved Compliance Awareness Act:

U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) today supported legislation to strengthen the system of notifying the public when concentrations of lead in drinking water are above federal requirements, such as the ongoing drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

The legislation will require the EPA to notify the public when enforceable requirements for lead in drinking water are exceeded if a state or a local water system fails to do so. The bill also requires consumer notification when water being transported in a lead pipe is sufficiently corrosive that it could leach lead into public drinking water

The U.S. House of Representatives today, by a vote of 416-2, passed legislation championed by Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) and Congressman Fred Upton (MI-06) related to the ongoing Flint water crisis

Congressman Dan Kildee (D-MI), U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) applauded the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) quick approval of an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration for Genesee County and the City of Flint to provide loans for eligible businesses that have been adversely affected by the Flint water crisis. Last month the members sent a letter urging Governor Snyder to request SBA assistance for struggling Flint businesses.
