Gov. Rick Snyder’s office today posted emails and corresponding documents that have been made available to requesting entities from state departments regarding the Flint water crisis. The documentation represents requests fulfilled to date by the Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Treasury, Department of Technology, Management and Budget, and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding Flint water.

Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, applauded the swift passage of H.R. 4470, the Safe Drinking Water Act Improved Compliance Awareness Act, by the U.S. House of Representatives today in a 416-2 vote. The bipartisan legislation was co-sponsored by all 14 members of the Michigan Congressional Delegation and is similar to legislation in the U.S. Senate sponsored by Senators Stabenow and Peters.

Northern Michigan to Receive Nearly $16 Million for Land, Water Conservation

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced that northern Michigan will receive nearly $8 million in public investment that will be matched by nearly $8 million in private sector investment to support land and water conservation. Support for this project – as well as five ongoing conservation projects in Michigan – comes through the 2014 Farm Bill’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program which was authored by Stabenow.

Moolenaar Supports Flint Water Legislation Passed by the House

The legislation will require the EPA to notify the public when enforceable requirements for lead in drinking water are exceeded if a state or a local water system fails to do so. The bill also requires consumer notification when water being transported in a lead pipe is sufficiently corrosive that it could leach lead into public drinking water

Congressman Dan Kildee (D-MI), U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) applauded the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) quick approval of an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration for Genesee County and the City of Flint to provide loans for eligible businesses that have been adversely affected by the Flint water crisis. Last month the members sent a letter urging Governor Snyder to request SBA assistance for struggling Flint businesses.
