DHS Summarily Suspends the Adult Foster Care Small Group Home License of Carlee Nelson
June 21, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS), Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing (BCAL), issued an order of summary suspension and notice of intent to revoke the license of a Newaygo County adult foster care small group home licensee, Carlee Nelson, #AM620009247, 2490 Twelve Street, White Cloud, Mich. This action resulted from recent investigations of complaints of the adult foster care small group home.
The June 13, 2011, and June 15, 2011, complaint investigations found violations of the Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act and administrative rules regarding the administrative capabilities of Carlee Nelson and Ms. Nelson’s ability to attend to the protection and safety of residents. BCAL took emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of vulnerable adults.
Effective 6 p.m., June 20, 2011, the summary suspension order prohibits Carlee Nelson from operating an adult foster care small group home at 2490 Twelve Street, White Cloud, Mich., or at any other address or location. Accordingly, she may not accept physically handicapped, developmentally disabled, mentally ill and aged adults for care after that date and time. The order also requires Ms. Nelson to inform all of the guardians of adults in her care that her license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide adult foster care.
Ms. Nelson has held a license to operate an adult foster care small group home since June 25, 1987. The license was for 12 adults.
Michigan law defines an adult foster care small group home as “an adult foster care facility with the approved capacity to receive 12 or fewer adults to be provided with foster care.”
