Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment and reappointments to the Underwater Salvage and Preserve Committee

LANSING, Mich. – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Lawrence (Larry) Monshor of Gaylord as well as the reappointments of Brian Abbott of Haslett, Rob Campau of East Lansing and James Nowka of Brutus to the Underwater Salvage and Preserve Committee.

Supported by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the nine-member committee provides technical and other advice with respect to maintaining Michigan’s 13 underwater preserves. It makes recommendations regarding the creation and boundaries of Great Lakes underwater preserves, reviews applications for underwater salvage permits, gives recommendations regarding issuance of permits, and provides input regarding the charging of permit fees and the use of revenue generated.

“I thank these individuals for serving and I am confident their experiences will allow them to bring positive inputs to the commission,” Snyder said.

Appointment:

Monshor is the teaching and learning coordinator for Davenport University On-Line, and previously served as a certified public accountant with Midwest Professionals and as an electric utility manager/engineer for Consumers Energy. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Electrical Cooperative and the Wolverine Power Electrical Cooperative. Monshor holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA in accounting from Davenport University. He will represent the general public with experience in recreational scuba diving and replace Terry Begnoche.

Reappointments:

Abbott is the owner of Nautilus Marine Group International, LLC. He is an Engineer and HSE part 1 diver. Abbott holds a bachelor’s degree in geophysics from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado. He will continue to represent members of the general public with experience in recreational scuba diving.

Campau is the chief executive officer for the Michigan Realtors Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Michigan State University and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He will continue to represent the general public.

Nowka is the owner of American Knife Company and JN Publishing, LLC, and previously worked as an associate publisher for F&W Media. He is the author of Prepper’s Guide to Surviving Natural Disasters, and has more than 20 years of experience with the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve officer and dive team member. Nowka holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent members of the general public with experience in recreational scuba diving.

Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Aug. 17, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
