Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointments to Community Service Commission

LANSING, Mich. – October 5, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced eight appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Community Service Commission.

Established in 1991, the 25-member board fosters a culture of service by providing vision and resources to strengthen communities through volunteerism. It also develops a three-year comprehensive community and national service plan that is updated annually.

“I am confident that these appointees will work hard to inspire Michiganders to further embrace volunteerism and community service,” Snyder said.

Appointments:
Col. Kriste Etue, of Brighton, is the director of the Michigan State Police. She began her career with the Department of State Police in 1987 as a member of the 101st Trooper Recruit School. She previously served as deputy director and commander of the Administrative Services Bureau. Col. Etue earned an associate’s degree from Kalamazoo Valley College and is a graduate of the 206th Session of the FBI National Academy. She represents experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services and replaces David Andrews.

Heidi Magyar, of Laingsburg, is the director of community outreach programs for Southeastern Michigan for General Motors. She has served in numerous capacities at GM. Magyar holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan-Flint. She represents experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services and replaces LaMont Campbell.

Michelle Rabideau, of Grand Rapids, is the president of the Saint Mary’s Foundation, the charitable arm of Mercy Health Saint Mary’s. She serves as president of the East Grand Rapids Board of Education and on the board of the Michigan Woman’s Foundation and the Center for Community Leadership. Rabideau earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s in public administration from Grand Valley State University. She represents experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services and replaces Janet Lawson.

Reappointments:
Julie Calley, of Portland, is an Ionia County Commissioner and serves on the Ionia County Community Mental Health Board Authority, Community Corrections Board, the Tax Allocation Board, and the Board of Public Works. Calley earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Northwood University. She continues to represent local government.

Robert Collier, of Grand Rapids, is the president of the Council of Michigan Foundations, a position he has served in for more than 15 years. Collier earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and political science from Hobart College and a master’s in public administration from Central Michigan University. He continues to represent community-based agencies.

Bob Kolt, of Haslett, is president and CEO of Kolt Communications, Inc., a privately owned communications corporation providing a variety of communication counseling services to public and private sector clients statewide. Kolt earned a bachelor’s degree in cinematic arts and journalism from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in communication from Michigan State University. He continues to represent individuals with experience in promoting service and volunteerism among older adults.

David Price, of Lansing, is the retired executive director of MARO Employment and Training Association. He has more than 30 years of successful association management experience and seven years of rehabilitation facility experience. Price earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from John Carroll University. He continues to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services.

John Truscott, of Okemos, is president of Truscott Rossman, a bipartisan public relations firm. He previously served as the president of The John Truscott Group. Truscott earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Michigan State University. He continues to represent businesses.

Members serve three-year terms expiring October 1, 2018. Appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
