Housing Leader James L. Logue III Receives Top Industry Award at Building Michigan Communities Conference

LANSING, Mich. – (RealEstateRama) — James L. Logue, a statewide leader in affordable housing and community development for more than 40 years, today was named the 2017 Terrance R. Duvernay Award winner at the Building Michigan Communities Conference (BMCC).

“My vision is to follow the tenants of my faith by actively serving the needs of my family, friends and community,” Logue said.

The Duvernay Award is named for the late Terrence Duvernay, a pioneer in affordable housing who served as executive director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. The award is chosen annually by a committee of past recipients and goes to a person who reflects the ideals and personal qualities of Duvernay.

Today Logue is the Chief Executive Officer of Develop Michigan, Inc. and Chief Strategy Officer at Cinnaire. He joined Cinnaire in 2003 after succeeding Duvernay in the role of executive director at MSHDA for 12 years.

Prior to coming to Michigan, Logue held the following positions: Executive Director of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, Director of Programs and Policy at the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA), and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multifamily Housing Programs at the U.S. Department of Housing And Urban Development in Washington, DC.

Logue was a leader in designing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) as part of the Tax Reform Act of 1986. The housing credit has been the most successful rental housing program in history. Since its adoption, more than 30 million apartments have been financed for low-income families, seniors, veterans and those with special needs.

As CEO of Develop Michigan, Inc., Logue has helped create a diversified portfolio of commercial real estate assets including investments in mixed use, housing, retail and a variety of historic preservation developments. The Development Michigan Real Estate Fund has helped finance more than 100 transformative projects across Michigan’s rural and urban communities, providing more than $40 million in financing.

Logue was honored at a luncheon awards ceremony during the BMCC, which began Monday and wraps up Wednesday at the Lansing Center. Celebrating its 19th year, the conference brings together individuals from across the state working to create and preserve affordable housing, serve the homeless and revitalize downtowns and neighborhoods.
