Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in opposition to President Donald Trump’s recent executive action that will lead to more expensive home mortgage payments for millions of Americans.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, today praised the Committee's extension of a provision that will ensure that homeowners working with their banks to reduce their mortgage payments will not be hit with a huge tax bill. In addition, the Committee passed her amendment to provide additional certainty to homeowners who might be eligible for this tax relief. This measure, based on Senator Stabenow's Mortgage Forgiveness Tax Relief Act introduced earlier this year, was included in the Committee's tax extenders package.

Recovery Act Funds Will Provide Weatherization Assistance for Homeowners. Washington D.C. - July 7, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — The US Department of Energy released $288 million in weatherization assistance funds today, including $97.3 million for Michigan. Macomb County received $3.2 million and Oakland County received $4.4 million. The counties previously received funds for training and ramp-up activities, and will be eligible for additional funds ($4 million for Macomb and $5.5 million for Oakland) after the state meets reporting guidelines. The funding, to be administered by Macomb County Community Services Agency and Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency respectively, will provide home energy audits and weatherization improvements to local eligible homeowners.

House Bills 4453-4455, now Public Acts 29, 30, and 31 of 2009, would allow consumers who are on the brink of foreclosure a 90-day period to attempt a loan modification plan.
