The City’s Response to the Heavy Storm Occurring on Sunday, August 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 4, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — As you are all aware, on Sunday, August 2nd, in the early evening, a heavy storm swept through the Northern Michigan region causing significant damage in many communities. It has been reported that Traverse City witnessed straight line winds of over 70 mph which caused over 3,000 Traverse City Light and Power customers to lose power and the majority of the City to face fallen trees and large amounts of debris on their property.

City and Light and Power crews are working diligently to remove trees and debris from public property and to restore power to its remaining customers that are without. We thank you for your patience as we work to perform these clean up and restoration duties.

The City does however still need your help! We ask you to use extreme caution while out and about today; look up, look down, and look around. There are many loose limbs in trees that may still fall, washout holes which may cause a trip hazard, and power lines which are loose or lying on the ground. If you witness any of these dangers, please contact the Department of Public Services at (231) 922-4900. Finally, we ask everyone to minimize their water usage by turning off irrigation systems and waiting to do laundry until power has been fully restored.

“Situational awareness is important. With significant damage in our community, residents should be aware of the possible dangers caused by the heavy storm. Please be aware of your surroundings and report any possible hazards you come across.
