Water Response Teams Visit More Than 11,000 Homes Today State Continues To Provide Water Resources in Flint
FLINT, Mich. – January 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Water response teams continued their door-to-door efforts, today visiting another 11,144 homes providing free bottled water, filters, water replacement cartridges and water testing kits.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality reports that since implementation of residential monitoring, water sampling reports are as follows through Jan. 22, 2016:
1,186 total Residential Samples reported
1,099 samples at or below the Action Level of 15 ppb (92.7%)
966 samples at or below 5 ppb (81.5%)
87 samples exceed the Action Level of 15 ppb (7.3%)
“We are in the process of establishing a formal sampling protocol that will be representative of the entire distribution system and we will revisit these sites routinely to establish a baseline and conduct trend analysis,” stated Keith Creagh, Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
Those who get their water test results should know that the units in the reports are expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/L), also known as parts per million (ppm). In order to convert to parts per billion, multiply the result by 1,000. For example, a result of 0.004 (mg/L) would equal 4 parts per billion (ppb).
Flint residents are encouraged to turn in the water test kits at the five water resource sites. You can watch how to use a water test kit here.
Creagh continued, “While we recognize not all the samples within the program are officially recognized. The reason we are collecting this data is because we are trying to get an overall assessment of the water system and to identify potential areas of ongoing concern.”
