– The Canadian (CAD) rate for eastbound traffic will be reviewed and adjusted April 1 and Oct. 1 of each year, adjusting the rate dependent on the daily exchange rate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 31, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced a parity policy effective April 1 for the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. This change will impact customers traveling from the U.S. into Canada paying with Canadian currency (CAD).

This parity policy will allow Blue Water Bridge administrators to adjust the CAD rate twice per year, on April 1 and Oct. 1. The policy will adjust the CAD rate either up or down, dependent on the average daily exchange rate between U.S. and Canadian currencies. Prior to April 1, the Blue Water Bridge has been the only state-owned crossing in Michigan without a parity policy in place.

It is important to note that these are not toll increases; rather, it is a policy that will allow the CAD rate to be adjusted either up or down, depending on the previous six months exchange rate. This rate adjustment will only impact eastbound traffic traveling into Canada.

Rate adjustments will be made to the nearest $0.25. Based on the current average daily exchange rate, the toll figures below will go into place effective April 1:

Passenger vehicle tolls will adjust from $3(CAD) per trip to $4(CAD) per trip.
Extra axles will adjust from $3(CAD) per trip to $4(CAD) per trip.
Trucks and buses per axle will adjust from the $3.25(CAD) to $4.50(CAD) per trip.
Prior to implementing this currency parity policy, MDOT collected comments via public hearings, e-mail, written letters, and fax. Comments were collected and reviewed through March 23.
