Congressman Dan Kildee calls on Governor Snyder to Use State Budget Surplus to Aid Flint Residents Affected by Ongoing Water Crisis
Washington, D.C. – January 19, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today continued his call for Governor Rick Snyder to utilize all state resources at his disposal for the ongoing Flint water crisis, including a recently announced $575 million state budget surplus.
“Flint residents and children deserve to hear Governor Snyder take responsibility for this man-made disaster that was created by his administration,” Congressman Kildee said. “I appreciate the federal government declaring a state of emergency, but the state must step up and do more. The state of Michigan has a $575 million budget surplus and the Governor should dedicate a portion of that money to help the victims of this terrible crisis.”
Last week, Congressman Kildee and Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters wrote to Governor Snyder asking that state funds be “set aside in a ‘Future Fund’ to address the long term damage, including the health and educational needs of the children exposed to high lead levels.”
Last week, Congressman Kildee led a bipartisan congressional delegation letter in support of federal assistance for the ongoing public health emergency. “Your swift response is critical to address this ongoing public emergency and its long-term impacts on the people of Flint, especially its children,” the letter reads in part.
Congressman Kildee first called on Governor Snyder to ask for federal assistance back inSeptember 2015.
