April 19, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for low‑income energy efficiency grants. The grants are funded by the Low‑Income and Energy Efficiency Fund (LIEEF).
Up to $6.9 million is available to conduct pilot demonstration projects addressing energy affordability within Michigan’s low-income residential customer class. The demonstration projects should be used to test new and innovative approaches to ensure that low-income households can continue to receive safe, reliable electric and natural gas services. Projects solicited by this RFP will be completed using a two-phase approach.
The deadline for the above low-income energy efficiency proposals is 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.
“Many Michigan families are suffering in these tough times, and we must be innovative and creative in developing new strategies to help those families most in need,” noted MPSC Commissioner Monica Martinez. “This RFP is one way we are trying to encourage collaboration between public and private partnerships to find long-term solutions to energy affordability.”
