Sanborn blasts board of commissioners vote to raise taxes

-

LANSING, MI – March 30, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — State Sen. Alan Sanborn on the Senate floor today denounced the Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ Wednesday vote to raise residents’ property taxes.

“The board’s actions yesterday were reprehensible,” said Sanborn, R-Richmond Township. “We are facing the worst economy in recent memory, so what do some of the Democrat commissioners think is a good idea? Magnify the residents’ pain by hiking their taxes.

“This makes absolutely no sense. Here’s a message for the board: You can’t tax your way out of a recession. It is very sad and distressing to realize that when county residents needed a lifeline, the Democrat majority on the board threw them an anchor.

“I always believed that a zebra couldn’t change its stripes, but the Democrats on the board who voted for this tax increase have proven me wrong: They used to be tax-and-spend liberals; under the leadership of the new president, they have turned in to spend-and-tax liberals.”
